I have a client who just recently had her XP computer reformatted.

With nothing on the system prior, and knowledge that this combination usually works on Vista and 7, I have installed the following products:

-MalwareBytes Antimalware

-Spybot Search & Destroy

-CCleaner

-Microsoft Security Essentials

The system receives updates via Microsoft Update (xp's name for Windows Update) with no troubles at all

Attempting to update the Virus and Spyware definitions, I ran across a problem similar to most people

I received error code 0x8024400a. Is there something I am forgetting to install?

If I download the latest definitions using the link "https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx" would the system recognize the fault and be repaired for the next time it updates?

I've heard ActiveX has solved the issue before. Before I attempt it, I would like to know if this is a proper solution and which version of ActiveX would best suit XP.
