Best practice for cloned images and sysprep

I have read the The Machine SID Duplication Myth on Mark Russinovich's blog:

I am curious to know of people's experiences of deploying W7 images with and

without running sysprep.

I know sysprep does more than just reset the machine SID, but in the 'real

world' how have people fared?

I appreciate Mark's caveats about taking care with duplicate SIDs on DCs and

when using WSUS. However, really how necessary is it to sysprep

workstations?
