Yes, I know all that and I agree with you - in a previous life I was a

programmer.

My question concerned the security vulnerabilities of Windows Vista. Not

every vulnerability is of a critical nature.

Many web sites publish these security vulnerabilities, but which one is

a credible source.

Simple, it's a viable alternative to those fed up with Redmond's DRM,

Linux is a viable alternative for users who know what they are doing.

However having people like you screaming about how secure it is and stuff

that isn't true doesn't help anyone.

It looks like either..

A: you don't know what you are talking about.

or, more probable,

B: you do know and are being malicious and are trying to get people to

install software so that you can exploit it.

Why else would you keep saying its safe even after people have shown you

evidence that it needs some knowledge to make and keep it safe?

Because, out-of-box, it is 1000s safer than Windoze is.

Cheers.

Good answer, and I'd actually accept that answer from these bozos if

their posts about ubuntu were in reply to help another poster (as your

are). Since their ubuntu posts have been the start of a new thread

ripping on it, that makes it completely off topic and they won't even

stand up like men and admit it!

Well, I have yet to meet a Linux user that has complained that his/her

system has been infected with viruses, trojans or spyway. That has NEVER

been an issue. So, I guess, for those of us that know better, we are

reasonably content that having left Windoze, we can concentrate on using

our computers for productive work rather than baby sit it constantly

against outside attacks. If you chose to continue to worry about, well go

ahead. It's the Windoze mindset to start with.

Cheers.

That is not a surprise..

There are not many Linux users that would know if they had been infected.

Its not likely that an infection is going to flash the screen and say "Hi".

You may carry on as you desire.. please tell the truth when trying to

persuade others to try Linux.. the truth is better in the long run.

Certainly seems to be a surprise to you, as you've obviously clueless.

I run a WRT54G router that runs a hacked Linux firmware package. This allows

it to continuely feed its log files to a dedicated computer that shows me

who's knocking on my door. There are constant attempts to open up ports 445

and 135 thanks to all the compromised Windoze boxes out there. Of course,

the router stops these attacks, but it sure does show how bad things are

out there on the Net - THANKS TO WINDOZE.

need to do about it ...

Because you were trolling.

So......if it's trying to put down *nix it's not off-topic and not

trolling ?

But if it's a pro-*nix post, it is off-topic, and trollng ?

That certainly is a MS fanboi attitude if you ask me. (Not saying you are

one.....just that opinion.)

I agree. Let whomever post whatever they want, and let the reader decide

what to read. And the regs here that cry and whine about OT posts should

do the same. Besides, it's only them that care anyway, I've never seen a

non-regular (someone just looking for help) piss and moan like they do.

It wouldn't be bad at all if they were intelligent

disagreements/discussions, but you rarely see that when certain unamed

people are involved.

Dumb- that's what I call it. So give us the link to that last update for

nVidia from MS - the Network thingy.

I have not seen a driver update for any nvidia products in MS for over a

year - may be longer? Not that I would use it - did once and never again.

I usually find that its the clueless that resort to calling people

clueless.. those of us that have some knowledge are usually quite happy to

help educate others.. you appear to lack anything to educate even the most

basic user with even though you claim to know much.

You need to learn about computers by the way you talk...

First.. grc is not a good site.. he doesn't have a clue which you would know

if you had a clue.

Second.. the probes on port 445 aren't all windows boxes and aren't all

exploits in the first place.

Do you actually have anything interesting to say or is it all kiddy level

stuff?

Of course they're exploits when open to the Net. No one running Samba would

Let me introduce you to someone who has never, ever been infected by

anything running Windows from their very first RTM of WinX...meet

me...Frank. And I'm sure I'm not alone seeing as how all the people in

all the businesses I deal with have never been infected running windows.

As for being productive in a business atmosphere, Windows is the major

choice then Apple and then well...who knows as I don't know any other

OS's used by all the businesses I deal with. Not one linux business user

do I know of.

So run your mouth all you want about how secure linux is, I for one find

Windows just as secure as any install of any linux distro.

So what you say is in reality, not true...which makes you another lying

linux loser.

Which also begs the question...why are you here...other than to spread

more lies about MS and linux?

Alias is here because, although the Linux groups are filled with

like-minded rabid 'tards, they keep laughing at him.

Here, in a smaller Linux pond, he can be a bigger fish.

You have NEVER had a virus or malware? And "all the businesses I deal

with have never been infected running windows". How do you know Frank?

Do you ask each and every user? Do you, a claimed business owner,

discuss viruses with other business owners? If you've NEVER had a virus

or malware, then all I can say is that you must be one lucky person, but

I don't believe your statement above and I doubt anyone else will

either. You can say you don't care what I believe (and I'm sure you

will) but it won't change anything.

I don't know ONE company or user who hasn't been infected either by a

virus or malware using Windows at one time or another. Even the

simplest of computer users within networks we admin, have wound up

getting a virus or malware, even with AV software. Heck, I've even

found them on my machine and I think I'm the most careful user I know

(it was years ago but the fact remains). It's one thing to try and bad

mouth Linux, but I don't think anyone here will give much validity to

you making statements like that.

No. And in small businesses I think that's fairly normal. I've heard
