What's going on, a friend's e-mail got a link only and no other words?

What's going on, a friend's e-mail got a link only and no other words? That's very unusual.

We communicated infrequently, but I know he is a good person. He would never hurt me.

I have never clicked on the LINK, afraid it could be a virus.

Is it possible that his computer was infected and the bad guy used his computer to send me a virus.
