Can't open IE8 after trying multiple solutions

I recently had my laptop freeze and had to focibly restart it via the power button. After that, when i tryed to login on skype it sent me to a link in mozzilla firefox about index fiels or soemthing, I can't remember. I tryed opening IE but the window just briefly appears then immediately closes automatically. I tryed goign into windows features, and IE8 is already unticked, then when I tick it nothing happens, then when I untick it it comes up with that warning which I then click yes on, then nothing happens again. After this I tryed installing the latest version of IE, but when it finished installing it offered me to restart now or later, to which I clicked now. My computer restarted, then when I tryed to open IE, it still would no open. I tryed deleting Skype and installing it again, but when I try to open skype, I just get that blank page with the cloud and rainbow.
