Doing a weekly fully scan but told my system could be at risk.

I have Security Essentials scheduled to do a full scan each Sunday, which it completes. However, I am now being told twice a week that I have not scanned recently and that my system could be at risk. What is going on?? I use FireFox if that is significant.
