Posted February 8, 201213 yr I have to install a Brother AIO printer/scanner using a network connection. Using a brand new Acer Veriton X275 with 4gB RAM, new HDD, built in graphics card. The printer driver went in, it prints. The scanner though isn't working. Brother (the AIO manufacturer) looked at it and said the "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service" is broken and you need to get that fixed first. When we investigated it, the service is set to "Auto" but remains stopped. We can go to the service and "Start" it but 15-20 seconds later it's stopped with no error or any other symptom. The two dependencies (RPC & Shell Hardware Detect) are already confirmed on and running. Since we just took this out of the box two days ago, I'm surprised I have no support from Microsoft and I'm going to have to pay for phone support. Acer won't touch it because they say it's a Windows problem. They only cover the hardware during the warranty period. Two questions: If true, what do you experts suggest we try to ensure that WIA stays on? Is what I'm told about and have read on the 'net about Microsoft's phone support correct? H Continue reading...
