Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and need help with the following.

I would like to take are curren domaiin (server 2008 standard 32bit) and migrate to a new server box with server 2008 r2.

Keeping the same domain name and computer name if possible.

I than want to take the old server and turn it into a backup domain.

Can someone give me a breakdown on the steps I need to do to perform this task.

You could do that but is not a great idea (too much work).

 

Why not simply create a new DC in the same domain with Global Catalog configured? Once done, you can use netdom to rename the old domain controller. Is not a good idea to change the name of a DC with the name of an old one.
