Posted January 28, 201213 yr Hi, I tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials, I think it was version 2.1.1116.0, on an upgraded HP Pavilion A345C with Windows XP SP3 but there were problems. Each time I tried to install the program I saw one of two different error codes. 1st attempt: Installation Error Code 0x80070643 2nd attempt: Installation Error Code 0x800106B5 3rd attempt: Installation Error Code 0x80070643 4th attempt: Installation Error Code 0x800106B5 Before I tried installing MSE on the computer, in the past, the free version of Avast was installed and the free version of AVG was installed. Not at the same time, of course. Those programs were removed before I tried installing MSE. When I ran in to problems with the installation I tried using some cleanup tools. I did find and run tools for cleaning up after Avast and AVG. Unfortunately the cleanup tools that I ran did not fix whatever it is that is causing MSE to not install. Currently, when I start up the computer and log in to Windows a Security Center bubble pops up and tells me that Microsoft Security Essentials isn't running. However, according to Add/Remove Programs, MSE isn't installed. Any suggestions? Continue reading...
