Having trouble upgrading to Windows 7 x64

I recently decided to upgrade Windows 7 from x32 to x64. I backed up all of my personal data then started a fresh install. During the 'Completing installation' phase I get this message:

 

Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation.

 

What might be causing this?
