Posted January 19, 201213 yr I have successfully created and deployed Windows 7 images without using 'generalize' with sysprep in the past. I am now trying to update those same images but I want the default profile to save the changes I make to the reference account. I have that true in the unattended.xml. According to several online sources including microsoft the generalize switch must be used in order for this to be done. When I use generalize upon reboot I get a message saying "Windows could not finish configuring the system..." and it reboots and comes back to the same error message. Things I've tried so far, I've tried booting in safe mode it will give me a message about not being able to continue in safe mode. I've tried to read the setup.etl with typing "tracerpt setup.etl -o logfile.csv" I get a message about it being corrupt and unreadable, I've also tried log parser and get error parsing query. I've tried the hotfix and it says I dont need it, I always disable 'wmpnetwk.exe', the machine is not on the domain, and finally I tried booting in diagnositc with msconfig and now it just hangs at system is setting up services. Like I stated earlier I've never had any problems until I had to use the generalize switch. This issue has become very frustrating and all I want to do is make a default profile. I am in an enterprise environment and is taking up alot of time on a very time sensitive project. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
