Microsoft Security Essential color turned Brownish from Green

The top bar on my computer of Mocrosoft Security Essential has turned Brownish from Green in color. It also indicate that : Computer Status - Potentially unprotected". Removing this programme and downloading again did not help. Even the updates fail to g through. Can any one help please?
