Windows Security Defender....seems like malware or something - keeps popping up...Help!!!

unfortunately windows has somehow installed Security Defender on my computer...but I can't find anything about it online and it keeps popping up every few seconds with viruses detected etc. and wants me to pay about $90.00 for it. I can't get it off my computer!!! Help!!!!
