Posted January 11, 201213 yr Hello, everyone, Let me get this out of the way: I like the newest beta. It's easy to tell, for example, the beta is being very diligent in overseeing all file operations from the small performance hit I am seeing. Text files seem not to be a problem, but virtually all other file types are taking a wee bit longer to respond. File copy operations, notably, across drives, are noticeably slower than before. It seems that every file is scanned when it is looked at, even those that have previously been scanned. Oddly, I notice no hit when just looking at directories. While I understand that things can change with files in the event of a malware infection, it makes sense to review a file's status. I would never advocate the white-listing of files. That would be a train wreck (security wise). Perhaps a faster check-sum could be implemented to offset some of the performance hits. Since I run full scans every night, it would seem to me that some allowance (perhaps a database of hashes, or, CRCs?) could be used to increase responsiveness. I'm not really privy to how MSE works, in detail, but I think some progress could be made that returns some of the lost performance. And perhaps it already does this. Maybe the algorithms could be refined. God help me if my recycle bin is full of executables (that, mind you, have already been scanned), it takes some time before any operations can be done with them. Surely something could be done about that. It may also be that the situation I am experiencing is unique to my set-up. My machine has a WEI of 6.0 (with mechanical disks yes, I did figure out how the beat the 5.9 thing), so this machine isn't exactly slow, and it's capable of using more of the advanced features of Win 7 Pro. Or, at least, it *should* be, in theory, anyway. My last two pet peeves: 1. I prefer to see the history of *all* detected items. Occasionally, MSE spontaneously reverts to all quarantined items (why should this be the default, anyway?). Anyone else notice this? 2. It's time to remove the option for a full to scan removable drives. A full scan should be just that: a full scan of everything connected to the computer. Make the option to ignore removable drives instead. Finally, if I've posed this in the wrong place, well, I couldn't find what the instructions on the survey page told me to do. Please feel free to let me know where the proper forum is. As for topic, argh... Edit: This post doesn't require an answer. This is simply feedback. Edit2: Oops. Lol, the last paragraph does seem to ask for an answer. Ha-ha, my bad. Continue reading...
