Okay, hold your laughter. But anyway, my wife buys me a new laptop (Acer), oh, over six months ago. It's to replace a laptop that I bought for my daughter back in late summer 2002 that I inherited after she finished college. I use it to do merely writing using Word and spreadsheets with Excel (i.e. don't even use it to access the web). So for me, it worked. But she insisted on getting me a new laptop so she did. Anyway, it came with a Office 2010 pre-installed and all I had to do was go through the process (I assume) of listing the product key during the set-up. Well, I "assumed" that the product key came on a card (or some other documentation) inside the packaging for the laptop, but I couldn't find it. So because my old laptop was still adequate it became one of those things where I'll figure out the set-up "next week." Well, next week became the next week, became the next months, ya da, ya da. So anyway, finally my old laptop crashes, so I'm "forced" (ha) to find a way to activate this. So I'm thinking to take it back to the store (Costco), and ask them for assistance. Of course, it's been well over six months (at least), and we can't locate the receipt as proof of purchase, etc. (of course!) But anyway, as I'm lamenting this, I finally come up with the wonderful notion of turning the laptop over and "there" is the sticker with the product key number! So I'm thinking all my problems are solved! So I input the product key number and it returns a message that tells me the number is invalid! I double check the number, it is correct as I had input it, and I try again. Same result. Of course, during this process I "did" input one letter incorrectly, and so I read up and find that this message is displayed if you put in the incorrect number, so "maybe" it's that? I'm going to try again later tonight. But my question is this, "Is there a maximum time period during which you're supposed to activate Office 2010 with the product key? And that it's been far too long before I finally input the correct product key number? If so, am I screwed at this point? Please help. I look forward to your reply.
