Dear Microsoft / Community,

We are experiencing problems with missing keystrokes in IE8 and I hope someone can help!

We are using ORACLE's Siebel CRM as our CRM system. Siebel is a web-based application using Internet Explorer and ActiveX. For years, everything was working fine, but with the introduction of IE8 some users started to experience missing keystrokes while typing in Siebel popup windows. For example the text "I am using Internet Explorer" might become something like "I a usng IntenetExplrer". First we started to replace their keyboards, but it did not show any effect. It definately is not related to the keyboard. So I searched the internet and found various threads about delayed keyboard input and missing keystrokes in IE8. I tried uninstalling IE8 on the affected machines and went back to IE6 - suprise suprise the issue was solved !!

Keeping security in mind, IE6 is not an option though. So now we have this annoying problem with Siebel and IE8. The keystrokes are missed no matter how fast or slow you type. And even more important, it only happens in popups! It does NOT and NEVER happen in the normal web application. I found similar threads on the web talking about those problems in Google Mail popup windows and others. So it seems to be an issue with IE8 handling input areas in popup windows if they are based on certain technology like ActiveX.

I raised a service call with ORACLE, but they seem to be not able to do much since it is out of their scope.

We have already tried a lot like disabling Macromedia Plugins, Flash, Shockwave, disabling toolbars, running Windows in safe mode, replacing keyboards, running virus scans, adware scan, etc. etc. but nothing, really nothing could solve the issue (except going back to IE6 :-) )

Does anybody have an idea either what could be the cause if this, or what steps one might take to find out why IE8 behaves different upon keyboard input in popups?

Thank you very much,

any comments are welcome!

Fred
