A few nights ago when I clicked off the computer I was advised of some 12

upgrades were being installed. The computer then turned off. The next morning

when I logged on a window appeared called UPDATE MANAGER. I clicked OK only

to find it required a disc to instal (what I don't know). Then an error

window popped up Error 1706. With this Update Manager running I couldn't

reboot the computer and had to Ctl/Alt/Dlt to get rid of it. It happens every

time I log on. I searched Error 1706 only to find I needed Microsoft Windows

Installer. When I worked through that I re-installed Windows Explorer

downloading version 7.0. It still didn't get rid of the Update Manager window

on starting. This is all very frustrating. I'm fairly novice at the language

but I must be making a critical error. Does anyone have a suggestion for a

neophyte. I'm using XP Home, SP2. Many thanks.
