Guest Gooch Mango Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 My MSE got corrupted, and I had to uninstall and reinstall it. This was not a problem. During its initial scan after installation, I began getting warnings from my firewall that three setup.exe files were attempting to access the internet from my D (data) drive. MSE is installed on my C drive. I blocked them using Windows 7 Firewall Control (Sphinx Software app). This was AFTER MSE was installed. The setup.exe files did not have any plain language maker's name, just a long alpha-numeric string as an identifier. I searched the internet for any info on these file names, but nothing was found. I searched my computer for these file names, hoping to open file location and get a clue as to their origin, but these files did not turn up. I then searched for "setup.exe" (without the rest of the name), and no setup.exe files were found on my D drive (as it should be as that drive is for data only, not programs). The initial MSE scan came up clean, as did the MBAM and SAS scans I also ran. Questions: Does MSE create some sort of back-up, and hide it in a random place with a random name? If so, should this be on my D drive instead of C? If these are MSE files, should I allow them internet access? Thanks! Windows Home Premium x64 Continue reading... Quote
