Why does IE sets a disabled anchor color to grey and does'nt respect styles applied to it?

Ok, here's the situation...

.NET framework 3.5 renders a disabled anchor like this:

Visit W3Schools.com!

For some reason, IE displays it grayed by default. The problem is, I need to apply a style on it, and it involves changing the text color.

To do some tests, I tried

Visit W3Schools.com!

but IE refuses to display it red.

So, how can I display a red disabled anchor in IE 9?
