I had windows Xp and Windows 7 in a dual boot configuration on separate partitions on the same drive. Windows 7 Developed startup problems (was getting about 75% of the way through starting up and then stopped on a blank screen with the mouse cursor) that could not be repaired using startup repair. So i decided to try to remove windows 7 and reinstall it.

I used a program called easyBCD to remove the windows 7 entry in the boot manager and then remove the boot manager itself.

I then formated the windows 7 partition.

I tested XP and it worked fine I pressed F8 during bootup to see if the (dual) boot manager was there and it had been removed.

So then i tried to clean install windows7 back to the partition i formated but it gets to 99% and i get the error.

"windows could not update the computers boot configuration. installation cannot proceed"

Im unsure how to proceed at this point. I was thinking maybe using fixmbr or fixboot.

- Thanks
