Guest jaynemorris Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 just been scammed by someone claiming to be Microsoft saying I had a hacker onto my laptop. They asked me to run www.support.me in the run box and enter the 6 digit ms version number. It took out my firewall all day yesterday, switching off every time I turned it on. Came to use it after reloading the software last night and the mcafee has disappeared - icon still there but when clicked on it says "navigation to the web page was cancelled" and that white notification cannot be closed except in task manager. A bt technician managed to reload the bt netprotect / mcafee today but after closing down the laptop and going back to it a couple of hours later it has wiped the mcafee again - any suggestions? I did run the scans several times whilst it was on - it removed 1 trojan and about 11 cookies. I have checked all the internet settings match my other win 7 computer and cannot see what I am missing - did the web site I typed in give them access to my computer that I cannot get rid of? Will it affect the other computers that use the same ip address and can it access info via this laptop? Continue reading... Quote
