I can get to the internet via firefox/explorer, but can't get Essentials Update to go thru. I get error 8024401b.

 

I also can't connect to Windows Help & Support. I get the following message:

You're not connected to online Help, which shows you our latest content. Check your Internet connection, and then try to connect to online Help again. If you still see this message, the online Help service might be temporarily unavailable.

 

Same problem with Yahoo Messenger, Curse Client, etc. They all say check my connection.

 

It seems like some kind of firewall issue, but I can't figure it out. I tried turning the firewall off & still no go :( Its a brand new laptop running Windows 7. It came with some free-trial anti-virus which I uninstalled. Let me know if you need any more info. Please help?

 

*Ok, update on the issue. It only happens when I try to connect to the net at work, I don't have the issue at all from home. I can take the cable out of the this laptop (Win 7) & plug it into my old laptop (Vista) there at work & have no trouble on the old one. So its some setting somewhere on the new system that is the issue.
