Windows Mobile 6.5 Marketplace Down - Unable to logon with misleading failure message

Device: HTC HD2

OS: Windows Mobile 6.5, internal: 5.2.21869

Marketplace for Mobile Version: 1.2.1422.0000

 

--- Problem Description ---

I am unable to logon at Marketplace and access my purchased apps from the HD2 since several weeks now.

 

The failure message is:

"Error

We encountered an error while signin in to your Windows Live ID account. Check your Windows Live ID and password and try again."

 

Looking at the ClientLog shows:

"2011-12-03 10:59:40.0630 LiveIdFramework E User authentication fail! fault value: S:Sender, reason: Authentication Failure, subcode: wst:FailedAuthentication [():0]

2011-12-03 10:59:40.0643 LiveIdFramework E User authentication server response fault detail error code: 0x80048821, internal error code: 0x80041012, internal error text: The entered and stored passwords do not match.

[():0]"

 

Both statements are WRONG. I have checked the Live ID several times and the ID&Password are correct.

 

I'm not going to discuss when or why MS eventually stopped Marketplace for 6.5 devices.

 

@Microsoft: Where are my purchased applications made available for installation after your marketplace cut?
