April 16, 201113 yr FPCH Admin Are you using t5he Windows Update link from Start menu? Are you sure you are going to the Windows update site? When you get the error next time you try to update copy and paste the URL from the address bar in this thread. There are a number of things that could be wrong. Anything from XP being deactivated on your computer to you having been infected with a virus. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest

April 16, 201113 yr Author I have Auto Update turned on - but no auto updates coming through. When trying to manually update from the microsoft site I get the error message from this URL http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/muoptdefault.aspx?returnurl=http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate&ln=en-us&muopt=6 I run Symantecs Norton 2011 as my Anti Virus software - and as far as I am aware there are no viruses. However, I know how devious these little things are. I can run Update 2 different ways - one from the Start menu and one from the Safety tab - Windows Update (with Internet Explorer running). Either way gives me the same error message

April 16, 201113 yr Author The error message was in my original post - so you can see the error number was 0x80070424. I tried your command line and it worked - yippee. I rebooted after running the prompt and went into Windows Update - I now have 88 updates to install. Thank you so much for your time - it is greatly appreciated.

April 16, 201113 yr Author I am so glad you saved your notes, and allowed me to use them. All my updates are now installed - so back to full working order. Once again thanks - hopefully I will not need to use this forum again - but as they say 'never say never'. Take care Bertie
