Guest Five By Five Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I just saw a folder on the C: drive root (C:\) named 'a3dc416c0d89388d46c1d20d' which has the following 'dir' listing: ===== dir listing starts ======== Volume in drive C is OS Volume Serial Number is D444-41B8 Directory of C:\a3dc416c0d89388d46c1d20d 02 Aug 2010 08:57 . 02 Aug 2010 08:57 .. 14 Jul 2009 12:11 510 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86- pkgProperties.txt 14 Jul 2009 12:11 510 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86- pkgProperties.txt~I50567LV 14 Jul 2009 12:09 601,801 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86.cab 14 Jul 2009 12:09 601,801 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86.cab~8JJVCIE8 14 Jul 2009 12:11 442 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86.xml 14 Jul 2009 12:11 442 Windows6.0-KB970158-x86.xml~UC6PJI1E 14 Jul 2009 12:12 185,878 WSUSSCAN.cab 14 Jul 2009 12:12 185,878 WSUSSCAN.cab~P00KLV9Q 8 File(s) 1,577,262 bytes 2 Dir(s) 9,871,044,608 bytes free ===== dir listing ends ======== There are no results for 'dir /a:hsrda *.*' The installation appears to have occurred two weeks ago. I do not have updates set on 'automatic' but rather the 'download and let me choose to install' option. I probably did choose to install this, but I am wondering why it would have installed on the root directory of the system drive. Google searching of KB970158 does not produce a result on the Microsoft site, but rather a whole bunch of people wondering what this update is, and saying that Microsoft has no KB page for it. Many forum re-publishing sites point to a Yahoo Answers site---about as reliably knowledgeable as getting milk form a bull----saying it is related to Zune. I don't possess a Zune product. Anyone know what this is? Quote
