Guest EuroAce Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Hi, Ever since last night, I believe, when I restarted my computer, I have not been able to open Live Messenger. Every single time I try to open it it says "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working", then it says it will try to find a solution or whatever, but nothing useful. So I looked and looked around google, I have un-installed Windows Live Essentials, then re-installed it... I have done a "repair" thing... I have also done a System Restore to Friday AND Thursday as it has worked before yesterday. I have found this OLD thread on these forums: 'LINK' (http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/672346.htm) And I have tried pretty much everything mentioned in there. Can anyone help me please? Thanks! -- EuroAce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EuroAce's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/252321.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest marc Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I have exactly the same problem. I am trying to find an answers but nothing there. Quote
Guest viceman Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi EuroAce, You can use a temporary fix to make Windows Live Messenger work until Microsoft comes out with a patch. Run WLM as administrator. (Start, All Programs, Windows Live, Right click on WLM and run as Administrator.) This works for me. Which operating system you are using by the way? Can you also tell us, prior to restarting your computer, did you install any software on your pc? -- viceman ------------------------------------------------------------------------ viceman's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/11317.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest Mike Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I have the same error on all 3 of my machines. Was working fine and now each of them gets the "Windows Live has stopped working" message. Sounds like a software problem in Messenger.. Quote

I did not, and I really haven't done anything except browse the web in the last few days. I have mentioned that I have done system-restores and nothing helps. I have also tried running it as Administrator and nothing. :( -- EuroAce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EuroAce's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/252321.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest james_911 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Have you installed any antivirus or firewall on your pc, try to disable both of them and then try to install the Windows Live Messenger. You can also try to completely remove it by a software called revo uninstaller, download it via searching through google. Other ways is that you can also create another computer user session in control panel and switch on new session and then install it. I also heard that Adobe flash player has some incompatibility issues with the MSN 9 version, so try to uninstall it as well. -- james_911 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ james_911's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/37434.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote

Wow, thanks I haven't tried these, I will get right on them tomorrow! ...That is if the "solar storm" doesn't get rid of all of our power and electricity... -- EuroAce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EuroAce's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/252321.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest NapHappy Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Have you installed Windows Live Sync or Windows Live ID Sign in or anything like that. I did that one two of my Machines and BOTH now have this problem. Other than those installations nothing else has changed. Guest Bru Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I have same problem too for the last few weeks, when I remove wlm and reinstall it will work only for the moment or when I first boot. If I close it in the system tray then start it up it will give me the same message "window has stopped working". So to check my email I would just use IE and hit the Hotmail button since the messenger button will not work as well. I have however found somewhat of a fix, it did revert back to the message once so far so I redid the fix and it has now worked numerous times and after several mins. use your windows key and hit r at the same time to bring up the run box, or type run in the search box once you hit the windows start button. next type regedit in the run box and hit enter 1. Hit "run" in the start menu 2. Type "regedit" 3. Open "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger" 4. Delete the folder called MSN Messenger 5. After this MSN Messenger Live will login as normal. -- Bru ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bru's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/254799.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote

After this MSN Messenger Live will login as normal. Wow, finally one that really works! And easy to do. But this does delete your conversation history and previously set settings... But your custom smileys and such stay. Thank you! :) -- EuroAce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EuroAce's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/252321.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest Bru Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 well it is not a fix as it does bug again and what I have done so far is instead of erasing the whole msnmessenger file I now erase a file that attaches to perpassportsettings, it is a bunch of numbers mine happened to be 843041584. I will keep deleting and hopefully find what is the problem, maybe with this info one day ms will fix it since there is not wide spread problem with it they wont fix it to fast to be sure :( until then we will suffer with this thing -- Bru ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bru's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/254799.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1355598.htm http://forums.techarena.in Quote

MaritimeRider Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Hi, Not sure if this is where I reply but after 4 days of trying to fix the same issue I finally found the simplest solution. Use the microsoft fixit tool. It is free. Open and follow the prompt. It worked immediately. Simple to do when MS does all the workGood luck. MaritimeRider Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Note the answer at top of your post. In a nut shell>> use Microsoft fix it tool. It took about a minute. My rule Keep it simple/ the kiss theory! ( smile) Quote
