I have Vista Home Premium w/SP1 I found a website that tells me to use Run, and enter: convert k: /fs:NTFS. But when I do I get this: "Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode." What the heck does this mean? Is there any other way to do this, or can someone help me with this? What other information do you need from me to help me? You go to the Run Command short-cut, you right click it and Select Run As Administrator. You can permanently set that on the short-cut by using the Advanced button. Read it, because Admin is locked down to Standard user. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709691.aspx On Saturday, August 16, 2008 4:03 PM Ringmaster wrote: Re: Trying to convert external drive from Fat32 to NTFS On Sat, 16 Aug 2008 12:26:25 -0700, "G@ry" wrote: Easy way, first turn off UAC and reboot, then try again. You can always turn it back on if you like it after. While generally a safe procedure anytime you reconfigure a file system from Fat 32 to NTFS there is some potential risk that you in rare situations might lose some files or in a worse case trash the entire partition. So be sure you have backup of critical files FIRST, just to be safe. Once the process starts, walk away and do NOT touch the keyboard and hope the power doesn't go out during the process.
