Guest InfiniteMonkeys Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I manage a Windows 2008 R2 SBS network with a single server and a number of new Windows 7 workstations. A couple of older XP workstations have been upgraded to Pro and joined to the network. Recently, I replaced one of the legacy PCs with a new Windows 7 Home Premium PC then upgraded it to Win7 Professional (HP5). I shared parallel printers from HP5 and all the other new Win7 workstations can see the printers and access them. The XP station (XP-PC) cannot. It can ping HP5 by name, but not view or access any resources. This occurs even if I am logged in as domain administrator on that PC. Initially, I found there was an issue with SBS 2003 and XP SP2 and firewalls, so upgraded the XP station to SP3 and numerous follow-up patches. I also upgraded HP5 to all current patches. When that did not work, I also went into gpmc and disabled internal firewall with no effect. I'm not sure that worked, however, since the workstations still showed the firewall managed by the server, but my administrator override on workstations was still not allowed. I suspect it is a problem properly accessing rights on the network, but have tried all methods of providing rights to the computer and user to no effect. I need advice on how best to proceed. What are the next best tests? What can I do to confirm it is not an internal firewall issue? What can I do to determine or fix an OS problem on XP-PC. What can I do to determine the effective share priveleges to a user on a PC? Thanks PS: I am new to this forum, so if I have posted incorrectly or in the wrong place, please let me know how and in what discussion group to correctly get assistance. Quote
