Guest Pavilion26PC Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Hi TaurArian I had problems with Windows Update also, giving me the "Windows can´t check for updates" message each time, the progress bar kept going and going and never stopped searching for updates... I red your note here and tryed it, thinking that maybe would help, but it is worst now.. I receive a message saying that Windows could not search for new updates, and this: Error found: Code 80070490 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. I tryed to set the file´s name back to how it was, but apparently it doesn´t work this way... Please, if you know what could I do in this case I will appreciate your help! I´m worried about it :s :s P.D: I checked other threads about this error and they suggest re-installing the Operative System with the DVD or CD???? Mine came with my laptop (HP Pavilion tx 1305us) without any CD or DVD!!! Thanks in advance "TaurArian" wrote: > Two possibilities : A Third party program is affecting the WU Service > (anti-spwyare programs, Internet/web accelerators, Firewall/Anti-Virus > programs) or the downloaded file is corrupt. > > Also see: > > You receive error code 8000FFFF when you click "Check for Updates" in the > Windows Update Control Panel item on a Windows Vista-based computer > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414 > > Suggest you rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to whatever you like. > This will take care of any corrupted downloaded files. > > How to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in Vista - > 1.
