1) Disabling Terminal Services

2) Turning Indexing off

3) Editing \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdrom

to 0

4) Turning SuperFetch service off

 

These steps helped me get rid of most of the harddiskchatter. Hope this

helps others with similar problems.
