i cannot search for certain text inside a file in win2008 server.

When i search, the search always looks only in filenames, but not in content of files

in win2003 server, i had to update the following registry key in order to be able to search for text in the files:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex

- Set the DWORD-value of FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions to 1 (default = 0)

i did try different settings, but noone did bring any success

any help is much appreciated

Hello fellow countryman :)

First of all I suggest you to install the WINDOWS INDEX SERVICE ROLE (server manager > server roles > add role) this will increase the speed of your research.

Then you should be able to resolve your issue by clicking on TOOL (in explorer, inside your drive path, let's say C:\) then FOLDER OPTIONS and then click on the tab SEARCH, on the top you have 3 radio buttons, select the first or the second... this choice is up to you :)

Let me know if this resolves your problem.

(now I don't have a server with me... so I can't assure these steps are correct... give it a try :) )

ps: where are you from exactly?

mhhhh so if you try the advanced search it dosn't return any result?

Remember... you can't search into files from the text box "search" on the right...

I'm from Ticino... a bit far away from you :D
