Are you on drugs, Alias? Seriously, are you? Because one can search high and

low in this city at least and find nary a Linux desktop. Very very few

people use it. You will find it doing web and file serving, but hmm, that's

about it and its time is shortening there as there are better web and file

server operating systems out there. In other words, show me the money

Alias: there are hardly any Linux desktops in Canada. At LinuxFest Ontario

you see a bunch of people - it looks busy - but upon closer inspection I've

realize I've had bigger parties at my house than there were in that

LinuxFest convention. It's sad Alias. There's not going to be that tidal

wave of conversion. This is not the year Linux is "going to take the

desktop". Most people have forgotten it even exists.

He's referring to the 90 day trial version. After 90 days, you can't use

it on *any* computer.

Just because something was downloaded over 10m times does not equate to

10m users.

You need to show some facts here.

The Fedora update repository is used by 17 million users.

Ubuntu having 10 million would not be an unreasonable number.

How many Window Vista installs are out there?

They count OEM installs, which are quite often wiped by the user.

And little choice on the consumers part.

One thing Linux owns Windows on:

All linux installs are by the users choice.

Imagine that ... having a choice.

Not the way it's figured.

> You need to show some facts here.

Look them up yourself if you know how. Last I checked, I am not your

research assistant or secretary.

Alias

Downloads don't equate to installs. First off some of the more zealous will

download a new ISO each time there's a point one upgrade - so there's

multiple downloads perc omputer there. Then many download but don't install.

And then the truth is most downloads will be installed, found frustrating

and incompatible, then wiped off and replaced with Windows.

This is not the year Linux takes the desktop, Alias. Not this year, not the

next, not the one after that. Never. Face it: the 1990s are over, Alias,

Ubuntu is the OS equivalent of flogging a dead horse - Linux didn't make it.

Move on.

If you'd had bothered to follow the thread and actually read the post, you'd

have realized I was talking about an evaluation version. Windows 7

Enterprise which runs for three months. It's no charge and enables anyone

run Windows 7 for a season for free.

As it is, though, one can install Windows 7 off any Windows 7 DVD and run it

indefinitely, if one is willing to put up with the wallpaper being turned

off after the activation period limit is reached. Microsoft is not using

Windows to keep anyone from using their computer - an old complaint in

C.O.L.A. was that they were .. well .. they aren't.

It's not hate. It's correction. Alias and Gordon worship some penguin god

and in its service spend their time as trolls in a msnews.microsoft.com

newsgroup leveling accusation and insult, and spreading misinformation and

FUD.

Um, Ubuntu usage is not calculated by .ISO downloads. Care to post

another silly, unfounded and not verifiable idea so we can all laugh at

it as well?

I started using Linux in December, 2006. What's the 90s got to do with

it? Now, Ubuntu is more user friendly than Window is, ever was or will be.

Fact: Ubuntu usage is growing.

Fact: more and more governments and big businesses are using Linux on

the desk and lap top.

Windows is history. Move on.

YOU spread misinformation and FUD. Suggesting an alternative to the

The evaluation copy will shut down your computer every hour after 90

days. Educate yourself before you post, moron:

If you educate yourself, maybe you'll stop posting your ignorant LIES.

I don't deny it. Ubuntu usage might have grown a few thousand people here ..

but at the same time has lost a few thousand there as the frustration of

using it was realized. People will pretty much use a thing like Linux only

if the boss forces them to. Otherwise, it's Windows.

As I plonked the idiot Saucy, I'll reply through you.

If the idiot Saucy looked at my headers he/she/it would see Windows Live

Mail running on Windows 7 RC.

I use both.

What I HATE is idiots who slag off either OS, (windows OR Linux) for no

reason what so ever and have no cogent arguments to support their slagging.

Both OSs have advantages over the other and both OS's have disadvantages as

opposed to the other.

Use whichever (or both, as very many do) suits you but don't slag the other

without logical argued reason. (Saucy........you have NEVER in this group

put forward ANY logical reasoning behind your infantile posts...)

There. Let it be.

First you say that .ISO numbers are too high and try to denigrate it.

When I tell you that that isn't the way it's calculated, you then

denigrate your own point. Nice job, clueless one.

Yeah, it will go down in history as a predatory, monopoly seeking

company that held its paying customers in total disdain.

Alias

Careful with the insults. I wasn't lying. Re-read the post I made .. I

swtiched from talking about the Evaluation version to *any* version - I

meant the RTM bits. My apologies if I wasn't clear. The regular retail

versions will run indefinitely even though not activated. Microsoft provides

a couple inconveniences (wallpaper goes to black after an hour etc.), but

the system runs and doesn't stop anyone from working, running games etc.

etc. etc.
