markikona Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi, Not sure if this is the right place for this, apologies if so. We have recently upgraded to a SBS2008 set up from a SBS2003 environment. everything has gone well apart from we have some ageing windows 98 clients (that cannot be upgraded or replaced - long story) and I need to be able to map a network drive. In the 2003 environment we had to allow anonymous access to this share and (risky i know) enable the guest account, but it worked. I've done the same here but when I try and map the drive using a script I get Error 55: The specified resource is not available. The computer that shared the resource might have been turned off, or the permissions might have been changed. For more information, contact your network administrator. I can ping the server and it resolves to the correct IP address I have windows XP clients that work ok with the anonymous access I just can't for the life of me get the Windows 98 ones to connect. I would have thought that I need to enable something for the 98 clients to see the server but all i can see from google results is how to join it to the domain which i do not want to do, i just need to mape 1 share. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA Mark Quote

If this doesn't work, well you have to downgrade your domain. When you install the DC it will ask you if you want to use the compatibility with older systems, you have to do that! The third solution is just an idea... maybe you can try to setup a DC running 2k3 server and set the win98 client's DNS address to this server instead of the new one. Anyway, I don't know if this helps, but take a look here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/windows-98-cannot-join-a-windows-server-2008-domain-dsforum2wiki.aspx Let me know if this help. I just suspect the problem could be on lockout policy, because if I remember right, once your win98 client fail the authentication, it's automatically "blocked". Sorry... I have no other suggestions for you... Quote -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais. Du kannst auch auf Deutsch schreiben. ericf Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I know this is a little bit of an old post but if you still have not found an answer you may have luck with this, I have, but not in the same setup you have. start -> run -> IP address of the server and / or share name. when you map it, it should show you an IP address instead of name. I could be total wrong about this, its been awhile since i have used 98 Quote
