Windows XP Places Bar View Does Not Stick

I have had a customized Windows XP Places Bar (common open/save/save as

dialog box) with some direct paths and some of the built-in folders for a

long time. I have set and from time to time changed the places with either

direct registry edits to the comdlg32/placesbar key or through TweakUI.

I have had no problems with any of this until just recently when the view

for two of the places reverted to the large icon (thumbnails) view, though

the view stays details (my preferred view) for the other Places Bar

shortcuts. I cannot find any place to set the Places Bar view for each of the

5 possbile places (unlike the Office Places Bar, which can have individual

views set by a DWord in the registry for that place), and when I change the

view of the offending place in the open/save/save as common dialog box to

details, it changes for that instance, but changes back to large icons

(thumbnails) the next time the common dialog is accessed, and sometimes even

in that dialog box's session when moving between a place and back.

Any thoughts?
