Posted August 31, 200915 yr Okay so I'd like to change the text of some of the items on the Start Menu. Fire up Resource Hacker, open Explorer.exe, Go to string table 439. This is what appears in an unmodified Explorer. 7012, "|Undock Comput&er|&Log Off|T&urn Off Computer|D&isconnect||" 7013, "|Undock Comput&er|&Log Off|Sh&ut Down|D&isconnect||" Change that to: 7012, "|Undock Comput&er|&Log Off|Sh&ut Down|D&isconnect||" 7013, "|Undock Comput&er|&Log Off|Sh&ut Down|D&isconnect||" Compile script, save as something like "Explorer2.exe". Next, Regedit: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Change "Shell" to Explorer2.exe Reboot. Start Menu text has not changed at all. Any ideas? Are there other registry keys I am missing out on? I tried this hack before and it worked however for some reason after I restored the original Explorer.exe at one point, it no longer works.
