tviles Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Currently have a server running 2003 standard with AD. 20 clients. Unboxed a new server today and it has 2008r2 enterprise on it. Question is should I just setup a new domain on the 08 server or go thru the steps of adprep on the 03 server? Then add the 08 server into the forest as a DC? Then later promote it to root DC when we are ready to shutdown the old 03 server? Will all this keep me from going from desktop to desktop and fishing out the client files they keep locally? Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted March 10, 2011 FPCH Admin Posted March 10, 2011 It should. They shouldn't even notice the difference when they login the first time. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
tviles Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 OK thanks for the reply. I have been reading about adprep and if I understand correctly I use the adprep32.exe from the 08 disk on the 03 server. Is this an after hours project? Does it cause a reboot? Also the 03 server system drive is down to less than a gig of hard drive space. Thanks Tracy It should. They shouldn't even notice the difference when they login the first time. Quote
tviles Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 No from I can read does not cause a reboot. Do I join the 08 server to the 03 domain prior to adprep? OK thanks for the reply.
