I am having some configuration issues with hooking up a wireless client

to a windows XP pro machine. I have a Belkin N router in a location

hooked to the internet. It works fine locally.

I have a remote XP PRO machine i am trying to wirelessly hook to this

network. I have two access points. One is a small USB unit that is more

or less plug and play. It is DHCP and does work ok. I just cannot move

it far from the machine using the USB cable.

The other access point is a linksys WAP-54G. I cannot get his unit to

get internet off the Belkin wirelessly. On the same machine the USB

access point works. The WAP54 has a single ethernet port which connects

to my XP machines ethernet port

What i did was set the XP Ethernet port to 192.168.1.1

The stock address on the wap is 192.168.1.245.

I can open up the configuration in a browser windows.

I can do a site search and find the Belkin. I can select the belkin

for the connection. I just cannot get

the internet to work wirelessly on the XP machine using the WAP54 for

some reason.

I think this has something to do with the static IP settings on the XP

machine. I used 192.168.1.1 for address and gateway, 255.255.255.0.

When i set the static IP in the XP machine, it does not allow a

automatic DNS. Do i need to set the DNS settings on the XP machines

ethernet ports? What am i doing wrong here to get the WAP54 to

pick up internet from the belkin router?
