dmac Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Alright so let me preface this by saying I don't know a whole lot about computers... So I'm looking at buying a new server with Windows Server 2008 SP2 on it. I absolutely have to have a dual monitor setup for one of the programs I run but according to Dell & Hp tech support they don't make a server with dual monitor capability out of the box. One of their guys suggested an external USB video card, but I'm having trouble finding one that supports Server 2008. I know there is software for dual screen capability on remote terminals...but is there anyway to have dual monitors when I'm working on the server?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted January 11, 2011 FPCH Admin Posted January 11, 2011 If the box has an empty slot for a video card you cam just add one yourself. It's a five minute job. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
dmac Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Well I don't know I haven't bought it yet. I wanted to make sure I could get dual monitor capability on whatever I buy. My IT guy told me typically the graphics cards are integrated into the motherboard itself? Quote
mmthomas Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Most of the Dell rack servers, at least, just have one built-in vga port, but an add-in card would be possible if you aren't filling the slots with other things. Quote

I have a video card with three outputs. I've connected them all. On another machine, I installed multiple video cards. On my laptop, I installed additional video cards in the docking station. My only experience with Windows remote terminals using the multiple screens is with "GoToMyPc". The client machine can scroll to the other screens. Windows makes using multiple monitors very easy. UNIX is a bit more complicated to configure, but that's not for this forum. Quote
