connah Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 i have successfully created a domain called :: FMCR :: Console Repairs :: using co.nr but now i wanted it to be www.fmcr.co.uk so i made fmcr.co.uk with windows server 2008 using dcpromo. i am new to server 2008 (or any version of windows server tbh) i tried browsing to fmcr.co.uk (i know its not in use as you can buy it from any hosting website) and its still not in use... how can i host it to the internet using windows server? also how can i add my html files to it? and how do i create an email address for it? (how would i access these emails?) cheers ps. im new here and new to windows server so sorry if i sound like a noob but i am an expert (literally) with vista, xp, office, vb, program code, repairs etc and run my own business modding and repairing consoles, computers, mobiles and ipods (on fmcr which is why i want fmcr.co.uk) so i should be able to pick it up quite fast Quote
connah Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 btw is that what windows server does? create a domain / website? or did i just blow 400 on nothing? Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted July 20, 2008 FPCH Admin Posted July 20, 2008 You have to buy the domain and then add it to the server using IIS manager. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
connah Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 i thought you used windows server to make the domain? how does windows server no if the domain is mine or not? what if i put google in? i thought the point of windows server was to create the domain? Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted July 20, 2008 FPCH Admin Posted July 20, 2008 You buy the domain. You setup Windows 2008 DNS and create a zone for the domain you purchased. You assign an IP to the domain in DNS. Create a directory for the domain files. Open IIS manager and add the domain to the server. If you don't buy a domain Windows 2008 will not create it.
