Hello, Not sure if this got answered or not but here goes from a non pro. I

had this problem and fought with it for 6 hours. Finally, after reading a lot

of the posts, I went to the microsoft express download site and wrote down

all the download names. KB905474,KB110806,KB954154,ETC. then instead of

trying to get the microsoft system to download all 11 critical updates, i

just typed in each individual download name and downloaded it. I rebooted

each time and it all got downloaded. The crux of the SOLUTION is to go to

the firewall/proxy settings and type in the following exactly,

http://*.update.microsoft.com and add it to your site. Additional sites

are: https://*.update.microsoft.com and add it to your site. Additional

sites are: http://download.windowsupdate.com and add that to your

permissible sites. You get to this firewall/proxy setting by clicking on

tools then internet options then click the Security header then click

on the " trusted sites " and then type in the three names that I gave you at

the beginning. Close the box. I went back to the microsoft update site and

tried to download any updates that I hadn't already individually downloaded

and it went as smooth as silk. Hope it's not too confusing to follow the

above instructions. This was unnecessarily mind ripping and for no real

reason. It should have been an easy fix. Good Luck !!! I have windows xp

professional with service pack 3
