Posted October 12, 200816 yr I went to the section described by Peter below. I couldn't get it to start manually at first either. Then I right clicked on"SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ)" and chose properties. Next I chose the "Log On" tab. I noticed that there is a user name and password already entered into a field. So out of curiosity I checked "Local System Account" instead. I then tried the windows Update again. IT FINALLY WORKED! I hope this saves someone else hours of headaches.
