Hi All,

I'm pretty new here, and very new to vista, so forgive me if this has been

asked before.

I recently scanned my laptop for duplicate files (using directory opus

rather than a dupe finder) and I found over 7 gig worth of files. I would

like to delete these files, but am scared that big bill (gates) and his

buddies might just decide that my precious machine should stop running.

Can someone please tell me if I can safely delete all this extra stuff or

should I just live with it?

Thanks

You can do that ONLY in your personal files, like documents etc...

YOU CANT DO IT IN PROGRAM FILES OR SYSTEM FILES like c:\windows....

WARNING YOU WILL RENDER YOUR SYSTEM USELESS (*)!!!! DON'T DO IT!

(*) If you have vista its already useless.. chuckle, lol but anyway

You are the one who sees the list of files, so YOU are the one who has

to make the decision.

You should'nt use any third party utility unless you know what the

consequences are going to be and how to undo what you have done, when your

system falls down

Hi,

Much of it is likely shadow copies and backups. Unless you specifically know

a file to be a duplicate of something you yourself have saved, you should

not delete anything - especially from system folders.

Be cautious of any program that claims to remove duplicates. Without

common sense you could easily "delete" all your backups.

The best way to avoid having unwanted duplicates is setting up a

logical structure for your PC and sticking with it. A little time in

good housekeeping goes a long way.

I have in excess of a million files. No duplicates other than backups.

That's because every file has it's place and I know what place that

is.

You've recommended that program to others on a half-dozen occasions

over the past few months.

Why are you looking for something else now?

On a closer look, this bozo is spamming. EVERY post he/she has made

over the past few months has referenced the URL referenced here,

either mentioning a dupe remover or another file on the site - all

which must be purchased.

People fall into two main camps in this newsgroup.

1. Normal people that understand Vista is far from perfect, flawed,

and broken in several areas.

2. Moronic fanboys that blindly praise Microsoft and deny

how screwed-up Vista is.

Guess which camp Montgomery is in.

Some dopes are actually dumb enough to think that you shouldn't post

here unless your ready to praise Microsoft to the highest and consider

this newsgroup a place of worship. Yes, they are that nuts.

Hint: This is just a newsgroup, and all viewpoints should be welcome.

Including those that factually document how messed up Vista is and

those that suggest alternatives.

Don't play stupid. You're shilling for the company that sells the

products.

ALL you do is post the same/similar message all over Usenet.

SOME of your posts - apparently when you can't find something to reply

to - are shill posts cloaked in questions or requests for help:

Hi!

I need some advice. There are a lot of mp3 duplicates in my pc and

i'm looking for some app to 'find duplicate mp3'

(http://www.moleskinsoft.com/find-duplicate-mp3) files and delete

them.

What would you advise for me?

Thanks:)
