Files only visible in search view

Strange obscure behavior. On my brothers laptop, in documents a folder

with pictures disapeared. But if He searches the folder name it comes up

with all the files. Ive never seen this one before. Interesting point:

In properties for some of the files in the search view they are showing

0 bytes and opens to a blank window.

Has anyone ever seen this before?
