We've had this error showing up for a while on XP clients (SP2 and SP3) in

the Event log and can't find out what is wrong:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: NETLOGON

Event Category: None

Event ID: 5779

Date: 9/15/2008

Time: 3:12:22 PM

User: N/A

Computer: <clientname>

Description:

The site name for this computer is 'scdl.local'. That site name is not a

valid site name. A site name must be a valid DNS label. Rename the site to

be a valid name.

The site name is valid. It is the only domain we have configured and is

listed in DNS, with all associated SRV records, etc. DNS is AD-Integrated on

our domain controllers. There aren't any error messages in the DNS Event

logs.

I haven't been able to find very much information about why this error would

be displaying, but an event is recorded on every reboot.

Since this is a valid site name and DNS is fine, what else can be done to

fix this?

TIA

Rick
