I'm having trouble connection to the internet from my laptop (running

vista). I am connecting through a cable modem (no router).

The modem is working correctly. I can access the internet through my

desktop (running xp) and playstation.

I've tried everything I can think of (I've disabled then enabled the

local area connection). I've run diagnostics-- shut down and reset the

modem--- rebooted the computer-- removed freeware that I installed that

may cause an incompatibility problem.

When I reboot I only have local access only-- if I configure my LAN it

says the device is working properly (Broadcom 802.1 1b/g WLAN). When I

try to repair the connection-- i receive a dns error-- then the icon on

the bottom right hand corner of the screen suggested I have an internet

connection--but when I try to connect to the internet it reverts back to

"local access only."

I've also tried ipconfig /flushdns ... and also changing to an open

dns.

I'm not running off the battery--it is plugged into a wall outlet.

Any ideas?

Note that I have a limited knowledge of computers--- But i've spent a

lot of time searching online for possible solutions.
