How much longer will XP continue to recieve security updates? I saw on one ms
page that security support would stop sometime in April of 09. Is that still
the case?

That is still the case

April 2014.

It is mainstream support (additional feature enhancements, etc.) that ends
in April of 2009.

The period following the end of mainstream support is called "extended
support". During the extended support period Windows Update will continute
to offer critical (security) updates for XP SP2 users until mid-year 2010
and XP SP3 users though April of 2014. Once support for XP SP2 ends in 2010
users still using SP2 will need to upgrade to SP3 to continue to receive
security updates.

OK, Colin, you are correct, as can be seen when comparing the dates given in
this page: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&x=16&y=12&C2=1173

with the definitions here: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy

Thanks.
