I have a old sony vaio that I believe may have hard drive damage. I can get the computer to start but after the sony screen it says "operating system not found". So I have tried using a re-install windows xp disk, because that was what i had on the computer before it no longer worked, from a dell computer. I was able to put windows xp back on the computer and up and running however if I totally shut down the computer, using the shut down button in windows, and try to start it agian by hitting the power button on the computer it starts as it did before and after the sony screen it says operating system not found. When i just restart the computer, using the restart button in windows, after finally getting xp back on the computer, xp seems to stay and everything operates as normal. There is also a fairly loud clicking sound that comes from what sounds my hard drive only when i shut the computer down and power it up agian. It does not make the noise if I just restart the computer. My question is what may be wrong with the computer? Is it the hard drive, something bigger, or maybe xp. The reinstall disk is reinstalling xp with service pack 1a.
