The link provided in the answer does not work for me. I get Access Denied. See below.

I am having trouble getting my XP and earlier machines to log on to the Windows 8 machine where all of the printers and other resources are. They find it, it is visible in the Network, but the log on and password are rejected.
I did set a password for the W8 machine network.
The Windows 8 machine finds and connects to the other machines perfectly, but they cannot log on to it. The systems that cannot log on to the W8 machine are:
Windows ME
Windows XP Pro Premium
Windows Vista Home Premium
The exception is when I run Windows 7 on the multi operating system machine, it finds the Windows 8 machine and logs on with no trouble.
