Xp Home: access is denied

I accidently dragged a folder into one of those Microsoft updater
folders where the contents can't be accessed. The message is Access
is denied. I used a restore point to get the folder back to the
correct location, but I can't access anything in either folder. I
tried booting into safe mode and changing user access to the files to
"full" for all users, and now I can delete files, but still can't open
any of them. The message is Access is denied. No file attributes are
set. The folder isn't shared. I can rename the folders, but not copy
the files or folders. I'm running XP (stupid) Home sp2 with Norton
Protection.

Help?

Hi awag1,

If you haven't already done so, give this a try:

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

Something is certainly STUPID here, it's just not XP.

Hi Patti,
I tried that. I don't see a change owner option. I know it's there
for XP Pro, but not in the Home edition. At least not in my home
edition. I don't even know how to look at the owner in the Home
edition.
When I searched on msxm, some users said that maybe the folder was
password protected and all the file inherited that in spite of the
system restore? I really don't feel like giving Microsoft $60 to find
out what the password is.....
