An older lady that plays bridge with my mother online has a problem that I
have never seen. Her 5th grade grandson came over, screwed with her PC and
now the desktop is solid white and cannot be changed.

The color for the desktop background is set to blue (Display Properties
dialog box - Desktop Tab - Color dropdown). This can be changed - but
there is no change to the desktop.

The background image (Display Properties>Destop tab) cannot be selected from
the listbox (its as if the listbox is frozen) and the Browse button and
Stretch drop down are greyed out and not accessible.

Trying to set a beackground image by right clicking a picture and choosing
Set as background does not change the desktop.

Active Desktop is not active.

I have tried changing the Windows Theme (Display Properties>Themes) to no
avail.

She is runing a current copy of Eset's Smart Security (NOD32 + AntiMalware)
that has up to date definitions.

I have scanned the drive with Eset and AVG Anti-Spyware and found nothing.

Any ideas?

Hi Jim and Happy New Year,
Are you sure it is not snowing in the Computer LOL.
Try this:
Right click an empty area on the Desktop point to Arrange Icons By >> and
make sure the Lock Web Items on Desktop is NOT selected.

You can Restore the system to before His arrival!.
HTH.
